Commission Recommends Targeted Work Migration as a Solution to Increasing Labour Shortages in EU

In a recent analysis, the European Commission emphasised how difficult it will be for the EU to meet labour market expectations in 2022, with industries like construction, healthcare, and STEM suffering the most. In addition to outlining a number of solutions, the Commission’s Employment and Social Developments in Europe (ESDE) report suggests that one strategy for addressing the lack of workers in vital industries across all Member States is to encourage targeted labour migration from non-EU nations in particular skill groups.
