Germany’s labor crisis is an economic time bomb

German businesses have been warning of a skilled labour shortage as a ticking time bomb at the core of Europe’s largest economy for years. It has long been a topic of concern, but discussion has recently become more heated. Businesses in a variety of industries report finding it difficult to find the personnel they need, and that the issue is becoming worse.

Immigration, in the opinion of the German government, is one of the answers. It anticipates passing comprehensive immigration reform legislation in the upcoming weeks, which it hopes will increase the appeal of Germany as a location for international employees.

Germany’s labour minister, Hubertus Heil, has warned that if nothing is done, there could be a 7 million worker shortage by 2035. He holds the same view as many corporate executives that the scarcity, if it hasn’t already, will soon begin to slow German growth. Read more-
