According to a lofty declaration of intent released in April by nine bordering countries, the North Sea will soon be home to the largest green energy power plant in the world.
The Ostend Declaration envisions new linking cables zipping between the UK and continental Europe, doubling offshore wind capacity by 2050, fueling green hydrogen generation.
Its lofty language, however, was quickly brought down to earth by business, with more than 100 firms issuing a dire warning that Europe lacks the capacity to fulfil these obligations.
