The European Year of Skills presents an opportunity to step up initiatives to address the shortfall of bus and truck drivers.
The shortage of skilled labour in the EU is the reason for this year’s Europe Day’s emphasis on reskilling and upskilling, youth, and talented foreign workers.
Approximately 600,000 bus and truck drivers are needed in Europe’s road transport industry, a shortage that is expected to grow to nearly 2 million by 2026 if current trends are maintained.
Raluca Marian, director of EU advocacy for IRU, said, “We wholeheartedly support the goals of the European Year of Skills.
“Its timeliness underscores the reality of a skilled worker shortage. There is a lack of truck and bus drivers in our sector. Read more-
