Solar skills shortage threatens EU targets

February 16 – During a challenging hiring season, the European Union’s strategy to quickly increase solar and wind power hinges on a major growth of the solar and wind workforce.

According to industry group SolarPower Europe, the number of solar jobs in the EU is expected to increase by 30% to almost 600,000 in 2022, including indirect jobs in materials and logistics.

According to Solar Power Europe, the EU will require more than 1 million solar workers by 2030 to achieve the new, more ambitious renewable energy goals established by the EU to reduce the region’s reliance on Russian oil and gas. The EU wants to increase solar capacity to 320 GW by 2025 and build 600 GW by 2030 as part of its REPowerEU initiative. Read more-
